I bring 48 years of personal and professional experience with disability.
In 1978, at the age of 15, I sustained a spinal cord injury in a motorcycle collision that resulted in permanent paralysis as a C6 quadriplegic. After being given a prognosis that I likely would not live past age 30, I made a commitment to live life to the fullest.
Following three years of adjustment and becoming a person of faith, I graduated from high school, earned two master’s degrees, got married, became a father, and in 1994 relocated from Los Angeles, California, to Spanaway, Washington.
Professionally, while working as an injury prevention specialist for Franciscan Health Systems, I founded Validus Consulting & Services in 2004. The company was established with a mission to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve greater independence.
In 2007, I began contracting with Washington State’s Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) as a service provider in Pierce County. What started with two staff members serving four clients has grown significantly. Today, Validus operates in 28 Washington counties, employs more than 20 staff members, and serves more than 700 clients annually.
For the past 48 years, I have remained deeply committed—both personally and professionally—to helping people with disabilities achieve their fullest potential and live meaningful, independent lives.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management and MBA in Leadership & Management. As a Certified Licensed Professional Fiduciary, National Certified Guardian, I have brought over 35 years of financial and public guardian experience to Validus. After my mother’s stroke that rendered her paralyzed on her left side and disabled requiring 24/7 care, I had to quickly learn the full scope of case management in-home care as her conservator. Returning home with a caregiver made Mom the queen of her castle, to live independently and comfortably for the remainder of her life.
My interests include preparing delicious meals, reading short stories, gardening, traveling when able and spending time with family. Supporting an industry that serves others is personally soul satisfying.

After a 15-year career in education, I am enjoying my new role working in human resources, which allows me to utilize my past training and skills in a new capacity. I have a B.S. in Child Development and an M.A. Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction.
I am naturally outgoing and thrive in environments where I can interface with people. I am passionate about lifelong learning and will always take the opportunity to help others with training and ongoing professional development needs. In my free time, I enjoy baking, reading, making memories with my family and admiring the beauty of the outdoors.

I serve as the Technology Coordinator, providing technical support to staff across the organization. My role includes troubleshooting hardware and software issues, setting up new employees with the equipment and tools they need to be successful, and ensuring that technology systems run smoothly and efficiently.
I enjoy helping others navigate technical challenges and finding practical solutions that keep our team connected, productive, and supported. Whether it's resolving everyday technology issues, onboarding new staff, or assisting with system updates and equipment management, I am committed to providing reliable and responsive support.
My goal is to make technology accessible, efficient, and stress-free so that staff can focus on serving our clients and achieving our organization's mission.

I have experience working with organizations including the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Robert Half Inc., the World Bank, and CDWA, where I developed strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills. As a DSHS Referral Coordinator, I enjoy collaborating with CCGs and community partners to help ensure referrals are processed efficiently and individuals are connected with the appropriate services. I chose this line of work because I value being part of a team that makes a meaningful impact behind the scenes and helps improve access to essential resources. My professional interests include community collaboration, problem-solving, and streamlining processes, and outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and learning about different cultures.

I serve as the Administrative Operations Specialist, supporting both our staff and clients through billing, authorizations, and service-unit tracking. Originally from Mexico, I have been with Validus for six years and joined the organization after learning about it through a relative. Prior to Validus, I worked in administration for Amerimex Services, where I developed strong organizational and administrative skills. I take pride in being detail-oriented, organized, and responsive, helping ensure staff have the information and resources they need to effectively support their clients. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and supporting the day-to-day operations that help our organization serve individuals and families successfully.

I bring a diverse background in leadership, team development, operations, and community-based human services. Throughout my career, I have enjoyed helping teams grow, improving systems, and supporting people in reaching greater independence and success. As Senior Supervisor, my focus is on creating a positive and supportive work environment, strengthening communication, and helping the team have the tools they need to do their best work. I value practical solutions, strong relationships, and leading with consistency and respect. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling with my husband, celebrating family events, spending time on my homestead, and building projects that create lasting value.

Hi there! I'm Carly, your Validus Lead. I was born and raised in Oregon and moved to Washington in 2020. In my free time, I enjoy camping, kayaking, spending time with animals, and staying active in volunteering and my church community.
I am passionate about helping individuals overcome barriers, achieve their goals, and access the resources they need to thrive within our community. I am known for my strong communication skills, adaptability and ability to build meaningful relationships. I strive to provide support with empathy, professionalism, and integrity. I am honored to be here and can't wait to meet you!

With over 15 years of experience in healthcare, I bring both professional expertise and personal passion to my work. My commitment to supporting individuals in their journey toward independence was shaped by my mother’s experience in a rehabilitation center a difficult time that inspired me to advocate for better, more empowering alternatives. I work with people from diverse backgrounds, helping them recognize their strengths, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward living independently. What drives me is seeing that moment of realization when someone truly believes, “I can do this.” My goal is to continue growing in this field, encouraging others to see what’s possible, and to make a lasting impact on the lives of those I serve. “I don’t just help people live independently; I help them see that they’re capable, worthy, and stronger than they ever imagined.”

I grew up all over between Anchorage, Alaska to Southern California, but have lived in the Pacific Northwest for all of my adult life. Having had personal experience with the struggles that I strive to help others overcome, I ended up back in college and earned a degree in Human Services. I have been working in the social services field since 2018 and have found this work to be extraordinarily rewarding. Being able to help someone achieve long desired goals makes getting up every morning worth it all. I love to travel to warm and wonderful places and enjoy the outdoors whenever possible.

My name is Karen Boudreau, and I have dedicated my career to serving and advocating for vulnerable individuals and families in my community. Since 2020, I have worked as a Community Choice Guide with Validus Consulting, helping people access the services and supports they need to live more independent and fulfilling lives. My passion for advocacy began when I served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for Pierce County Juvenile Court from 1994 to 2000, representing the interests of abused and neglected children in dependency court proceedings. As a single mother determined to build a meaningful career, I earned my Associate Degree in Human Services from Tacoma Community College and went on to spend more than a decade with Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare. Throughout my career there, I served as a Residential Counselor, Independent Living Specialist, Case Manager, and Crisis Program Case Manager, providing outreach, housing assistance, crisis intervention, medication monitoring, independent living skills training, counseling, and referrals for individuals experiencing mental illness, homelessness, and other significant challenges. I also pursued studies in Human Service Management at the University of Phoenix and successfully operated my own cleaning business from 2001 to 2011. Through these experiences, I have gained a deep understanding of the needs of others and feel truly blessed to use my knowledge, compassion, and experience to serve and support those in need.

I am a compassionate and dedicated professional with extensive experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds and helping them achieve their personal goals. I am passionate about empowering people with disabilities to live fulfilling, independent, and meaningful lives by recognizing their strengths, promoting self-advocacy, and providing the support they need to succeed. Making a positive difference in someone’s life and helping them succeed is what motivates me every day.

I serve as a Community Choice Guide (CCG), bringing a unique blend of healthcare administrative expertise and legal advocacy to my work. After completing college coursework and earning my CNA license, I spent four years working as an Intake Coordinator. During that time, I also served as a Mediation Specialist intern, working closely with judges and the University of Washington (UW) Law program. This experience strengthened my conflict-resolution skills and deepened my commitment to patient advocacy.
Today, I combine my strong administrative background with extensive hands-on caregiving experience to help individuals identify and access the community resources that best support their needs and goals.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring nature, and caring for my chickens.

For the last 6 years, I have been playing trumpet. My goal is to be Herb Alpert, but at the recent concert, he advised all musicians to play as themselves. So I am now Herb Alpert inspired! I play in a Brass Quintet and a Winds and Strings group where, as the only trumpet in the group, I provide the loudest wind. I have four cats and as per the Feline Operational Manual, a cat must always sit on the keyboard while I attempt to type. When asked why I worked with people with Intellectual Disabilities, Mental Health Disorders, the Homeless and persons other disabilities, I can only answer that it was the best way to know and create community with people I may not see or have access to meet in my day to day living. Knowing people who may be unseen and unheard is only possible based on trust and unconditional positive regard.

Bringing a unique blend of clinical empathy and advocacy to my role as an Independent Living Specialist, my journey began as a Certified Nursing Assistant. That foundation in hands-on care naturally evolved into my passion for community empowerment and social services, where I now focus on helping individuals achieve self-sufficiency and long-term stability. What I love most about this work is watching clients gain the confidence and resources to navigate life independently. When I’m not advocating for others, I enjoy spending my free time on automotive maintenance and car customization projects.

My passion is helping individuals become the best they can be, by achieving goals that make their life better. My education is in the Psychology field, Counseling, Human Resource Development and Organizational Behavior. I have worked in the public and private sectors as a West Coast HR manager, transitional manager, for downsizing and reorganization after acquisition. I helped develop a training university for an organization and I led a Nationwide team on reorganizing an agency of the government.
I am a crafter and I enjoy seeing new places and meeting new people experiencing the beauty of the world. I especially enjoy seeing the delights of the world through the eyes of children.

I am a CCG and ILS, whose hands-on background as a Nursing Assistant and Home Care Aide, combined with years of advocating for my own child and other family members, empowers me to develop compassionate, individualized support strategies. This unique blend of clinical expertise and personal advocacy enables me to navigate complex systems, secure vital resources, and foster strong partnerships with colleagues and agencies I work with on a daily basis. At home, my partner of ten years and I share life with our four wonderful kiddos—three biological and one bonus—on our 40-acre homestead where we run Here to Cure Farms alongside over twenty chickens, a loyal Cane Corso, two orange tabbies, and thriving gardens. Living on the farm deepens my commitment to sustainable practices and accessible living, values that guide both my professional work and personal journey. In my spare time, I joyfully forage wild plants, rockhound local streams, explore tarot and crystals, paint, and lose myself in a good book.

Originally from the Bay Area, California, I have a BBA in Business Administration and Human Resource Management. My education and experience providing person-centered support in care coordination are driven by a natural curiosity of people and systems.
Serving Seattle and King County, I work closely with clients to advocate for their needs and help them meet their goals. I enjoy navigating the logistics of community transitions, crisis stabilization, and housing security.
Outside of work, I spend my time with loved ones and am usually chipping away at a new project or creative outlet. I am happiest when I'm exploring new ideas or learning something new.

From a young age, I had to witness both of my parents struggle to navigate adult living facilities, as multiple family members battled mental health disorders—my grandmother, for example, had early-onset dementia and schizophrenia, and spent the last third of her life in care. Because of this, my parents became medical powers of attorney for several relatives, and I had to watch them wrestle with the system out of love, not choice. After high school, I joined the U.S. Air Force as a heavy aircraft mechanic, serving over a decade before being medically discharged and retiring. Once I left the Air Force, I pursued my education at Clark College, where I became a veteran advocate and helped build their veteran center. I continued on to Washington State University, earning a bachelor's in psychology with a minor in neuropharmacology, while also working with the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Then, I went on to conduct my master's courses at Portland State University, working for the Council for the Homeless in Vancouver. I do this work because, having seen firsthand the struggles of people without support, and having navigated the system myself as a disabled person, I can truly empathize and help others find the care they need.

My name is Marty Wittman, and I am a Community Choice Guide (CCG), Independent Living Specialist, Certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP), and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) with more than 40 years of experience in complex rehabilitation technology, mobility, accessibility, and independent living services. As a spinal cord injury survivor and full-time wheelchair user, I bring both professional expertise and personal experience to helping individuals achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life. Throughout my career, I have worked in wheelchair sports and recreation, product design, assistive technology, modified vehicle consulting, and K–12 public education. I currently serve with Validus Consulting & Services and Premium Healthcare Products, and I am proud to support individuals and families as a Peer and Family Mentor and Trainer with The Here and Now Project and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. My passion is empowering people to overcome barriers, access the resources they need, and live as independently and fully as possible.
